Truly Personalised Marriage Celebrant Services Throughout the Illawarra

A great wedding ceremony should be joyful, sincere and meaningful for the couple, as well as their guests. I pride myself on my ability to really get to know a couple, build a rapport and work closely with them to create a personalised wedding ceremony that is a true reflection of who they are, both as individuals and as a couple.

Regardless of the type of wedding you’re considering, my motto is that ‘it’s your day so it’s your way’. This means I approach every wedding with an open mind, ready to listen, support, guide and ultimately help realise the wedding of your dreams.

Types of Ceremonies

Same-Sex Marriages

On 9th December 2017, the Marriage Act was changed to reflect the fact that the right to marry in Australia is no longer determined by sex or gender. Happily, marriage is now defined as ‘the union of two people to the exclusion of all others, voluntarily entered into for life’. Since this momentous day, I have been privileged to officiate at many same-sex weddings throughout the Illawarra region as well as in Sydney and the Southern Highlands.

Traditional Ceremonies

Traditional does not have to mean boring! Many couples I meet, whilst not necessarily wanting a full religious service, are keen to maintain certain elements of what could be defined as a ‘traditional wedding ceremony’. Working with a highly diverse client base, I tailor every wedding ceremony to ensure the faiths and perspectives of each individual are respected whilst still creating a contemporary and meaningful experience that reflects the couple’s commitment to each other.

Contemporary or Themed Ceremonies

Remember, ‘it’s your day, so it’s your way!’. Whether you’re considering incorporating a theme for the day or would like a very contemporary ceremony that flies in the face of traditional weddings, the choice is yours. Other than certain legal requirements that must be stated, what’s included in your ceremony is completely up to you. Together, we can fine tune your ideas to create a ceremony that captures the essence of who you are.

Mature Weddings and Blended Families

Mature weddings often result in the bringing together of children and families from previous relationships to create a blended family. This can present a wonderful opportunity to involve the children, or other loved ones, in the ceremony itself. I work closely with all types of family members (including pets!) to create a special and inclusive day that celebrates the start of the new family’s life together.

Culturally Diverse Marriages

Most countries have traditional customs that are performed during a wedding ceremony and which are designed to bring luck to the newly married couple. From simple and well-known customs such as bouquet tossing and wearing something borrowed or blue through to handfasting, sand ceremonies and beyond, the inclusion of culturally significant customs in a wedding ceremony can enrich the experience for the families involved. Having officiated at many culturally diverse weddings, I am committed to tailoring each ceremony to ensure it tastefully reflects each individual’s customs and traditions.

Daunted Couples!

I’ve worked with couples who, whilst not doubting their desire to get married, feel worried and anxious at the thought of reciting their vows in front of family and friends. If you fall into this category, you may feel your story is not particularly interesting and are not sure where to begin when designing your ceremony. As your Marriage Celebrant, it’s my job to put you at ease and give you the confidence of knowing we will create a ceremony you’ll feel excited to embrace. I have the experience of knowing the right questions to ask to quickly gain a sense of who you are, both as individuals and as a couple. Together, we will design a personal service that is tailored to suit your own values and needs.

How I Work

  • I’ll start by gathering a few basic details such as the date, time and venue for your wedding. I’ll then confirm my availability and let you know my fees.

  • We can have a chat on the phone or meet up in person so you can decide whether I’m the right fit for you.

  • Once you’ve decided to proceed with me, we’ll catch up, get to know each other and I’ll take you through the legal requirements and necessary paperwork. We’ll then work together to create your wedding ceremony.

  • I’ll put the finishing touches on your ceremony and provide you with a final copy for your approval. Whilst it’s not mandatory, many couples choose to catch up with me again prior to the wedding to conduct an informal rehearsal of the ceremony.

  • Let’s get you married!
